Texas Voice Project specializes in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, the only speech treatment clinically proven to effectively treat the speech and swallowing deficits associated with Parkinson disease. In sixteen individual treatment sessions over four weeks, patients learn to use increased effort when communicating. LSVT improves overall strength, endurance, and coordination of the speech and swallowing mechanisms. All treatment is provided by master’s level speech-language pathologists who are LSVT certified. The primary focus of the LSVT is to teach patients how to “think loud” while speaking. To “think loud” means that a patient needs to feel as though they are speaking loudly just to be heard and understood by others.

On the days that patients have an LSVT treatment session, they will complete voice exercises at home one time. On the days that patients do not have a treatment session, they will complete voice exercises twice a day. The vocal exercises take 15 minutes to complete. Upon completion of LSVT, patients should perform their vocal exercises a minimum of five days per week.

*If seeking LSVT at a facility other than Texas Voice Project, it is important to note that treatment should be scheduled four days a week for four weeks and must include the daily vocal exercises. If it does not, you are not receiving the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment and may not experience the dramatic results obtainable through LSVT.
